ARCHITECT / CONTRACTORBermuda Brickyard
ABOUT PROJECTBermuda Brickyard Limited was founded almost 30 years ago by Peter Schindel, a former airline pilot. Peter was in the process of restoring a historic Bermuda property and wanted to use high quality antique reclaimed materials such as brick, timber and other high end products which at the time were not availble in Bermuda. Keen to research for his own use and for others on the island, the idea of the Brickyard was born.
The Brickyard has continued to source, supply and install a range of outstanding materials and products for interiors and hardscapes: some recycled antiques from demolished buildings, and others made by modern craftsmen to provide items of timeless beauty and longevity for many of Bermuda’s finest home and office building projects.
“Brickyard clients also love Architectural Bronze for the aesthetic.
There is no other match for the timeless and stunning elegance provided by an Architectural Bronze window or door.”
“Bermuda is a semi-tropical island situated in the Mid-Atlantic and is an entirely coastal region. The climate is prone to high humidity and extreme UV with the added issues caused by sub-tropical storms and hurricanes.
“Any ferrous metals are subject to severe corrosion which is why Architectural Bronze is so welcome. Architectural Bronze doors and windows have proven to withstand the tests thrown at them by the brutal Bermuda elements.”
HOW HAVE YOU FOUND WORKING WITH A COMPANY IN ENGLAND?“Other than the obvious issues related to time differences (we are 4 hours behind and we are often still working hard at the office when our UK suppliers are heading off for a well-earned rest!) the Brickyard has not found the issue of working with a UK company particularly onerous.”
“Architectural Bronze’s technical team has always been very helpful and accessible via facetime and zoom whenever necessary.”
“Yes notwithstanding obvious covid-related issues, packaging of boxes inside containers is well built and thought out.
“We have never had any packing list mistakes which makes our import and customs clearance run very smoothly.”
HOW DID YOU FIND ARCHITECTURAL BRONZE’S TRAINING FOR ON-SITE INSTALLATION?“We have not had the site team come to Bermuda but they have been available through calls and videos.
“They have been great with training. While we do have our own team of technicians we would definitely recommend Vale’s technical team on site for large installations as it is important to reduce or eliminate leak”
Since consulting with our client for the case study, our Senior Bronze Project Manager has visited the island to give first hand instruction to site based teams on more complicated installations. This has helped to develop skills for locally based fitters working on more difficult details, cutting down working hours and improving their processes.
